Pair of 18th Century Mahogany Tea Tables

Pair of 18th Century Mahogany Tea Tables

English

circa 1800 - 1810

Pair of George III Sheraton period figured mahogany tea tables.

The solid mahogany tops retain a good colour and patination with fine reeded edges above a flamed veneered frieze.

The twin gate leg action to the reverse allows the tops to open to reveal solid mahogany surfaces at which to dine, serve tea, or play card games etc.

The shallow elegant frieze is inlaid with a fine boxwood stringing above a neat ebony edge, the same stringing is repeated to the upright vertical mahogany insets above the front legs.

The tea tables are raised on finely tapered ring turned solid mahogany legs that terminate on elegant feet above two sets of turnings.

The pair of tables are rather understated but it is the charm and overall design of them which give this appearance.
