An exhibition quality 19th century side cabinet made and numbered by Gillows, Lancaster (number 29433).
The surmounted brassed edge and brass gallery is fitted to the rectangular top. The top veneer arrangement is matched on the sides and to the front of the cabinet. A book matched quarter veneered tulipwood panel is banded, crossbanded and strung with purple heart, boxwood, ebony and West Indian satinwood with coromandel banded vertical panels to the canted corners.
Above the top door is a highly figured panel in miniature landscape and flanked with gilt brass medallions. Below the landscape frieze is the single panelled door which opens to reveal a single mahogany shelf above a pair of cupboard doors that open to reveal another single mahogany shelf.
Below the pair of cupboard doors is an ebony inlaid apron that is flanked with gilt brass roundels above inverted faceted legs that stand on ring turned brass bun feet.
