Tray-Top Side Table by Gillow

Tray-Top Side Table by Gillow

circa 1820 - 1830

Regency period 19th century carved rosewood tray-top table of small, elegant proportions and made by Gillows of Lancaster and London. The tray-top table is identical to a design published in the Gillow sketch books. The sketch drawing from Westminster archives is dated around 1822.
The rectangular moulded top is carved with an 'S' scrolled rosewood gallery and retains patina and age. The rosewood top is well-figured with a lively grain above a cross-veneered frieze with two mahogany lined drawers that are concealed on each end and sit above an 'egg and dart' moulding. The profusely carved end supports are crisply executed and are made in solid rosewood and stand on plinth bases that are supported by a ring-turned stretcher. The rosewood Gillow tray-top table is raised on beautiful carved out-swept legs that sit on the original concealed castors.
