The rosewood games table with its shaped top and brass galleries has a reversible centre section for backgammon and chess. The demi-lune lids lift up on brass hinges revealing a pen and ink compartment on the right and an empty compartment on the left intended for stowing chess pieces. Below the brass inlaid frieze is a concealed rosewood writing slide. The lyre shaped supports with the original brass anthemion mounts is typical of George Oakley's work and similar to brass fittings on a suite of furniture supplied to Sir Henry and Sir John Sutton Nelthorpe, the 7th and 8th Barons of Scawby Hall.
