By THOMAS SHERATON
England
circa 1795
Top quality satinwood has been used to best effect. The breakfront top with re-entrant corners has been cross-banded with West Indian satinwood, rosewood bands, boxwood and ebony stringing. The satinwood panels to the frieze are also cross-banded with rosewood bandings and boxwood and ebony stringing. The purple heart rectangular panels to the frieze are repeated on the sides of the pier table. The finely tapered legs with ebony stringing decoration is typical of the classical designs of Sheraton furniture from the late 18th Century.
