England
circa 1820
The beautifully figured top retains rich colour and patination, with the centre section raised on a four legged pedestal and the two end sections on three legged pedestals, all fitted with their original brass feet and castors. The ‘hipped’ sabre legs seen on this table are a feature of Irish tables of the period. NB The distinctive design of the hipped sabre legs can be seen on a table at Glin Castle, County Limerick, Ireland, the table being illustrated in ‘Great Irish Houses and Castles’ by J. O’Brien & D. Guinness, published in London 1992, p.152.
