The green and cream penwork decorated chess table top is of the the highest quality and sits above a crisply turned solid ebony pedestal on an ivory inlaid triform plinth base that stands on gadrooned ebonised bun feet.

George Merrifield was an ivory turner and maker of games tables and boards. He flourished between 1818-1826 and he traded from No.13 Gt.Turnstile, Lincolns Inn Fields, London. MANUFACTURER OF / Boards for chess draughts, backgammon, Pope John, Cribbage.
