Regency Period Dolphin Inkstand


circa 1820 - 1830

An early 19th century, Regency period, gilt brass and patinated bronze inkstand or standish. An inverted gilded oval shell enclosing two glass ink bottles fitted with patinated, bronze tops and lotus leaf decoration to the sides, sits above two gilded dolphins and centred by a dangling acorn. The gilded dolphins sit on a sarcophagus shaped bronze plinth. The patinated bronze plinth is adorned with classical leaf carving.
