These tables are delicately inlaid and cross-banded with specimen veneers, including amboyna burr, thuya, rosewood, burr walnut, maple and boxwood, with the smallest table inlaid to a chest-board pattern. The tops are raised on exceptionally well carved and ring turned baluster shaped legs and stretchers, made of solid figured rosewood. N.B. Gillow were the leading furniture makers of the day and supplied furniture to the Royal family, nobility and gentry, and their work can be found in many of the great houses. This set of tables is illustrated in the book, "English Furniture 1500-1840", page 254, fig. 3. by Beard and Goodison.

Condition

The tables are in very good colour and condition.

Literature

The nests of Gillow tables with concave shelves on the chess table are always well sought after. It provides somewhere for the game pieces to go whilst playing!
