Regency Nest of Quartetto Specimen Antique Tables made by Gillows of Lancaster

These antique tables are delicately inlaid and cross-banded with specimen veneers, including amboyna burr, thuya, rosewood, burr walnut, maple and boxwood, with the smallest table inlaid to a chest-board pattern. The tops are raised on exceptionally well carved and ring turned baluster shaped legs and stretchers, made of solid figured rosewood. Gillows were fine cabinet makers/manufacturers and today these pieces are very desirable antiques. Dimensions of smallest table: 16" (40.5cm) wide x 27" (69cm) high x 14" (36.5cm) deep

Literature

Gillow were the leading furniture makers of the day and supplied furniture to the Royal family, nobility and gentry, and their work can be found in many of the great houses. This set of tables is illustrated in the book, "English Furniture 1500-1840", page 254, fig. 3. by Beard and Goodison.
