Scottish

circa 1805 - 1810

Stunning set of late George III period mahogany dining chairs. Possibly from the workshops of Gillows of Lancaster.

The ropeback top rail is crisply turned and flanked with ringed turnings and tapered. The reeded uprights are fine and scroll off at the top and are adorned with turned roundels. The centre back rail with fluted lattice work centralised on flamed mahogany panel inlaid and crossbanded with satinwood brown ebony, above a horizontal reeded back rail.

The drop in seat is covered in a cream/gold damask and sits into a highly figured seat frame. The chairs are raised on ring-turned reeded and turned legs that terminate on tapered toes.

The chairs are in excellent condition and are of high quality.
