Rare Pair of 18th Century George III West Indian Satinwood Inlaid Oval Tea Caddies

Rare Pair of 18th Century George III West Indian Satinwood Inlaid Oval Tea Caddies

England

circa 1775 - 1785

These are a truly stunning pair of Robert Adam period West Indian Satinwood tea caddies. The oval shaped tops are inlaid with inverted flowers and centred by a harewood lozenge shaped motif. The tops are cross-banded with intricate overlapping leaf decoration with harewood stringing. The finely inlaid leaf-work is followed through to the sides surmounted on a cross-banded satinwood frieze. The hinged tops open to reveal later replaced lids and traces of the original lining. The main body of the tea caddies are centred with magnificent inlaid Adam style urns and rosette tied husk swags that sit above a matching leaf decorated border.
