The cube shaped chest is cross-banded on each face with tulipwood and strung with black and white boxwood. The double locked and hinged front wings are fitted with four bottles with two small drawers below. The centre part has three deep compartments with bottles and the front has four smaller bottles, their contents visible through pierced gothic arched openings with two shallow drawers below. All but three of the bottles are original and many contain interesting potions. The mahogany lined drawers have ivory knob handles.
One drawer has a manuscript label inscribed 'This medicine chest presented me by my good Aunt Mrs Bahiel (?) on the 17th day of Sept 1801. For which I will keep in respect of her worthy memory.'
