circa 1730 - 1740
Early 18th century carved giltwood and gesso mirror of diminutive proportions.
The carved split crest to the top is supported by inverted 'C' scrolls with adjoining upturned 'C' scrolls and stiff leaf carvings. The open fret giltwood to the top of the mirror sits above a neatly carved gesso border frame with re-entrant corners.
The mirror retains the original bevelled vauxhall mercury plate and follows the re-entrant corners of the frame.
The apron is pierced with Gothic clusters either side of the girandoles above carved leaf decoration and open fret work to the flanks.
NB. The mirror is in remarkable condition and retains almost all of the original 23 carat gold gilding.
