Rare Early George III American Maple Wood Occasional Tilt Top Table

Rare Early George III American Maple Wood Occasional Tilt Top Table

North America

circa 1770

The highly figured top is a solid piece and over the years it has settled down to a mellow honey colour. The tilt top carries the original metalware to the underside and sits on the original saddle. The turned pedestal and three splayed legs are in solid wood. The pedestal and splayed legs are quite formal in their appearance which indicates that this was more than likely made in one of the large East Coast cities of America, as the overall elegance of the piece suggests that it is more formal than provincial.
