The pair of crisply cast gilt metal Chippendale Rococo revival foliate candlesticks have removable 'Minton' bone china modelled figures of a (boy) gardener and (girl) companion. Minton was established in 1793 by the founder Thomas Minton, his son Herbert, and Herbert's nephew, Colin Minton Campbell. At the Great Exhibition of all nations held at Crystal Palace in 1851, Minton was the only British manufacturer to be awarded the bronze Council Medal for 'beauty and originality of design'.
