circa 1795 - 1805
Fine and rare pair of George III period mahogany tea caddies.
The highly figured mahogany tops retain the original silvered and etched ring pulled handles and back plates. The boxwood stringing to the edging sits above finely crossbanded tulipwood bandings and boxwood stringing. The tops are inlaid and decorated on the inside with harewood and boxwood shell motifs above boxwood edging. The caddies retain the original unpolished mahogany boxwood strung lids and turned knobs.
The book matched veneers to the tea caddies are what makes them a genuine pair: one for green tea and one for black tea. The caddies are finished off at the bottom with a vertical inlaid banding.
