Micro-Mosaic Marble Paperweight – 19th Century

A fine quality cartouche-shaped paperweight with micro-mosaic panel depicting the 'Forum Romanum', the Roman Forum.
The coloured micro-mosaic panel depicts the Temple of Vespasian and Titus in the foreground, with the further sites of the Arch of Septimius Severus, the Column of Phocas, the Temple of Saturn and the Temple of Castor and Pollux to the background. To the close foreground is an area of leafy green foliage. Beautifully executed in fine micro-mosaic with a cleverly conceived perspective that leads the eye deeply into the landscape. Set into a polished Nero Belgio black marble shaped body with a moulded or ribbed edge for purposes of grip.
The scale of the mosaic is 6.00cm wide by 5.00cm high


In excellent original condition with only very minor historic chips to the shaped edges.
