George II carved giltwood 18th century period mirror.
A large central open fret shell surmounted on 'C' scrolls and a bold 'S' shaped over hanging leaf carving. The lattice work flanks the large open fret shell and carved rosettes. The shoulders are dressed with trailing flowers above climbing acanthus leaf decoration and large openly carved and fretted 'C' scrolls. The frame is carved around the original bevelled mercury plate. The overall frame is decorated with piercings and the apron displays matched overhanging leaf carvings, flanking a crisply carved inverted shell.
It is rare to have bevelled vauxhall plates for mid 18th century frames and this mirror has been conservatively re-gilded.
