George II 18th Century Period Carved Giltwood Mirror

George II 18th Century Period Carved Giltwood Mirror

circa 1755 - 1765

The frame with a pierced cartouche form is surmounted on a central crest of carved scrolls, leaves and flowers. The rococo design is on the cusp of George III reigns of 1760. The intricately entwined and carved flower frame is decorated with 'C' scrolls, flowers, bells and flat relief carving with the centre crest supported on inverted C scrolls above a decoratively carved rectangular frame. The carved flowers that decorate the sides of the mirror are supported on exaggerated gadrooned C scrolls that swoop down to a centre crest.

Excellent. The frame has had minor restorations replacing various small breakages, the gilding re-freshed. The mirror associated yet believed to be 18th century mercury plate.
