Impressive Early 19th Century Satinwood & Marquetry Inlaid Gilt Ormolu Mounted Bureau Plat Table

Impressive Early 19th Century Satinwood & Marquetry Inlaid Gilt Ormolu Mounted Bureau Plat Table

Attributed to EDWARD HOLMES BALDOCK

England

circa 1825

The book-matched veneered satinwood top with serpentine sides and canted corners is adorned with stained floral marquetry designs with kingwood crossbanding and gonçalo alves mouldings. The gilt bronze mounts are fitted to the marquetry decorated satinwood frieze and there is a concealed centre drawer. The table stands on elegant swept cabriole legs with gilt bronze and ormolu mounts. The French style of furniture was very much the fashion of the day and this design is in the Louis XV manner, of Arc-en-arbalette form.
