Georgian Mahogany Inlaid Chest

Georgian Mahogany Inlaid Chest

circa 1790 - 1800

18th century George III period chest on chest.

The dentil cornice sits above a bevelled moulding and an inlaid frieze with matching crossbanding inlays to the sides.

The two short drawers above three long graduated drawers to the top section sit above a brushing slide and three further graduated drawers that stand on bold mahogany veneered ogee bracket feet.

The mahogany drawer linings are an unusual feature and a step up from oak.

The drawer fronts are crisply inlaid in satinwood, boxwood and harewood to each corner and crossbanded in satinwood matching the chest on chest sides. The drawer fronts also retain the original gilt brass swan neck handles and button back plates. The handles are framed within a satinwood panel, with the top section finished with fluted, canted sides.

The chest on chest is raised on the original ogee bracket boxwood strung feet.
