George IV Irish Mahogany Occasional Table

George IV Irish Mahogany Occasional Table

circa 1826

The mahogany top has a good colour and grain with panelled sides, corners and a full length drawer. The free-standing music table retains its original wooden knobs and lock. The lyre shaped trestle end supports are of good original colour with a carved wooden patera to the centre support. The harp-shaped supports stand on a mahogany plinth terminating on bun feet with concealed castors. Note: The term 'lyre' comes from a stringed instrument like a small U-shaped harp with strings fixed to a crossbar, used especially in ancient Greece. NB The music table is stamped with the number 2308 and retains an old depository label from Dublin.
