In the manner of THOMAS CHIPPENDALE THE YOUNGER
England
circa 1785
This is an elegant 18th Century serpentine window seat with a carved centre section of flowers, upturned 'C' scroll arms and shell decorated cabriole legs standing on French toes. The solid mahogany frame is beautifully carved in the French Chippendale style that was fashionable in London during the third quarter of the 18th Century.
The window seat has been recently re-upholstered with the original horse hair stuffing and a recently purchased yellow/gold Gainsborough damask.
The window seat is in remarkable condition and the frame shows no signs of repair. The legs are in the same condition and have no breakages. The seat is strong and sturdy. We have several images available of the frame restored but not upholstered to back up our claims of originality.
