By THOMAS SHERATON
England
circa 1785
The solid mahogany top has a wonderful colour and patination with boxwood stringing and a cross-banded frieze. The symmetrical boxwood stringing to the drawer fronts is a fine detail, with full length mahogany drawers. The right hand drawer is a deep drawer with a faux front. The locks and escutcheons are original and the table rest on finely tapered legs terminating on the original brass castors.
Regency dressing tables are more common than 18th century Sheraton examples. The width to this piece is really very practical and the concave to the centre section is very elegant.
