The George III cabinet with two satinwood and mahogany oval panelled doors sits on a fiddleback mahogany top, cross banded in rosewood. The cupboard doors conceal a bank of six mahogany and satinwood banded drawers. The fitted centre drawer with a mahogany cross banded writing slide has recently been recovered with a burgundy baize. The two short and one long drawers are cedar lined and carry the original silver-plated ring-pulled handles as well as retaining the original locks and rosewood escutcheons. The finely tapered legs inlaid with satinwood and harewood stringing is repeated on the shelf gallery. The inverted shelf is beautifully figured with mahogany and cross banded in rosewood. The rosewood cross banding is repeated throughout and the writing cabinet stands on elegant tapered block feet.
