George III Chippendale Period Mahogany Elbow Chair in the French Taste

George III Chippendale Period Mahogany Elbow Chair in the French Taste

By THOMAS CHIPPENDALE

England

circa 1765

The cartouche shaped back with out-swepted mahogany arms, with C' scroll carving and a generous serpentine shape to the front of the chair is typical of the period, The French taste showing through with the shallow shell decoration and slender elegant cabriole legs on scrolled feet. The chair would make an excellent companion for a writing table or desk. N.B. The frame is in remarkable condition and has only had some minor conservation for which we have photographic proof for any potential buyers to peruse.
