George III 18th Century Breakfront Serpentine Mahogany Sideboard by Gillows of London & Lancaster

George III 18th Century Breakfront Serpentine Mahogany Sideboard by Gillows of London & Lancaster

England

circa 1775

The faded mahogany veneer top is elegantly shaped above a cross-banded mahogany edge. The top sits above one cellarette drawer to the left, a bowfronted centre drawer and two drawers to the right. The oak lined drawers with faded mahogany veneers to the front are fitted with the original gilt brass handles. The drawers retain the original locks and are flanked with crisply carved oval paterae above flute stem carving with crisply carved and shaped 'sunburst' mouldings to the middle section. The sideboard stands on tapered legs which terminate on block moulded feet.

NB The sideboard is of a grand scale and is in original condition in terms of colour, patina and finish. The handles are a known Gillow pattern and can be found in the Gillow Book by Susan Stuart.
