French Louis Philippe Mahogany Folding Games Table


circa 1835

Probably made in Paris, the top of the games table swivels and opens to reveal a circular baize inset, above a useful frieze drawer. The 'X' shaped legs divided by a ring-turned stretcher are supported on beautifully cast lions-paw feet and castors. The table is of unusual small size.

Formerly the property of Lady Anne Cowdray (1913-2009). Lady Anne Cowdray was the daughter of the 10th Earl of Bradford and married Viscount Cowdray in 1939. Lady Anne lived at Broadleas House, Devizes, Wiltshire for 64 years. Her pride and joy, were her gardens, which in 1984 were made into a Charitable Foundation, and can still be visited today.
