Regency period early 19th century japanned, cream lacquer chinoiserie work box.

The flat rectangular top, decorated with figures, birds, trees and a home, is surrounded by a penwork border and a gilt painted floral outer border. The top opens to reveal dividers, compartments and two chinoiserie lidded compartments. The finely lacquered insert to the inner lid is in excellent condition, showing the original unblemished finish. The four sides of the work box are decorated and fitted with finely cast gilt brass backplates and ring pulls. The bombe shaped chinoiserie work box stands on finely chased gilt metal toes which are original to the piece.
