Cabinet by George Bullock

Cabinet by George Bullock

English

circa 1825 - 1835

An early 19th century Regency period Gonçalo Alves and brass inlaid side cabinet.

The rectangular Mona marble top and moulded ebony frieze sit above brass banding which consists of a concealed middle drawer. Below, the central door features heavily cast grills that are original 'sur mountreel' on brass inlaid doors and ebony slips. The ormolu gilt grills are unusual in that they are fitted as landscape not portrait. The side doors, being glazed, open to reveal more shelving. The chamfered side doors are brass inlaid with ebony slips and divided by upright grained veneers. The central door is flanked with cut brass inlaid staffs entwined with scrolling foliage and rosettes. The side cabinet is raised on rounded brass mount feet.

NB. George Bullock supplied two commodes with Mona marble tops and pier glasses above for Tew Park in 1817.
