circa 1830 - 1840
Late Regency George IV period writing table.
The large blue leather top is crossbanded with a rosewood edge. The well-figured rosewood veneers to the panelled frieze are recessed with a gadrooned moulding. The frieze has two centre drawers above a crisply carved solid rosewood stretcher. The stretcher is not inconvenient to the sitter and is supported on tightly carved trestle ends, above an elegant plinth base with matching recessed moulded panels. The partners writing table is raised on hairy paw feet that terminate on ring pad supports and gilt brass castors.
The library table at some point in it's history has been leathered to make it a writing table, the blue gilt tooled hide is our doing and now looks splendid.
