George IV Period Open Bookcase made by John Kendall & Co
The pollard oak bookcase is fitted with adjustable shelves flanked with solid pollard oak turned columns with crisply carved capitals. The bookcase is raised on a veneered plinth with the makers label on reverse.
The pollard oak is of a lovely warm honey colour and retains a well figured grain.
The maker John Kendall, Leeds (1793-1840) were important Leeds makers having many patrons including the Earl of Harewood, Harewood House between 1812-1822.
From 1830's the firm adopted policy of labelling their furniture.
