19th Century Neo-Classical Satinwood Chair

19th Century Neo-Classical Satinwood Chair

circa 1865 - 1875

Victorian period carved solid satinwood neo-classical open armchair.

The chair has several different markings and carvings that represent the Adam period with flower husks down the back uprights, acanthus carved leaf scroll work on the arms, and neatly carved flat head patria capitals adorn the back seat. The uprights to the centre back of the chair are made in the solid and adorned with flowers and stiff leaf carving. The cane seat with upholstered swab cushion is raised on fluted tapered front legs with lotus leaf decoration to the top capitals and rectangular flat head patria capitals to the seat rails. The chair is quite unusual, quite rare in design, and neo-classical in appearance.
