19th Century Flamed Mahogany Sheraton Style Pembroke Table stamped HOWARD & SONS Ltd Berners St. and numbered 14336/2634 Circa 1880. The mahogany top has been cross-banded in boxwood with interlaced ribbon and rosette decoration. The design and style of inlay was used by William Moore of Dublin in the 18th Century. The frieze is decorated both sides concealing a drawer on fine tapered legs on original Sheraton style castors. Howard & Sons History Established in 1820, John Howard set up business at 24 Lemon Street, London. By 1854 he had acquired premises at 22 & 36 Berners Street and from there built a reputation as one of the leading firms of Victorian cabinet makers. Howard & Sons were awarded a prize medal at the 1862 and 1878 International Exhibitions and the 1894 Antwerp Exhibition. They also won a gold medal at the 1900 Paris Exhibition. Among many notable commissions, Howard and Sons supplied furniture for Sudbury Hall, Derbyshire and Elton Hall, Huntingdonshire.
