Superb George III Period 18th Century Oval-Shaped Satinwood & Rosewood Inlaid Tea Caddy

Period of THOMAS SHERATON (c.1751-1806)
England
Circa 1790
The inlaid oval top with a central oval rosewood inset panel and original 'axe-head handle' is cross-banded with barber stringing and surrounded with West Indian satinwood 'fandell' shaped inserts. The satinwood is contrasted with ebony and cross-banded with barber stringing and a rosewood banding, cross-banded with larger barber stringing above a rosewood banded boxwood strung inlaid lid, which opens to reveal the original features. The body of the tea caddy is veneered in West Indian satinwood and centred enclosing the escutcheon, is a smaller inlaid medallion that mirrors the oval-shaped top.
