India
Circa 1860
The breakfront bevel carving to the top rail is surmounted on a thumbnail moulding and sits above scrolled leaf carving to three fielded back panels. The serpent heads that decorate the arms are richly carved and perch on 'S' scroll supports. The solid seat with matching bevel carving sits above a crisply carved frieze with 'C' scroll decoration and stands on elaborate cabriole legs that terminate on ball and claw feet. The bench was made in India, possibly Goa.
