Late George III Regency Period Revolving Mahogany Drum Table by Gillows of Lancaster & London

England
Circa 1800
The circular drum table top has recently been re-covered in a faded green leather with brushed gold leaf decoration to compliment the mahogany banding to the top reeded edge. The eight cock-beaded drawer fronts fitted to the revolving table consist of four dummy drawers and four mahogany lined drawers and retain lion mask brass handles and the original brass lever locks and sit above a finely reeded moulding.

The drum table top sits on a revolving metal plate and rod concealed within the reeded and moulded mahogany column above an up-turned knelled collar. This stands on a gadrooned moulded and mahogany veneered tri-form pedestal base above crisply carved 'C' scrolls that terminate on paw feet that conceal the original brass castors.

Note:
The revolving metal plate and metal pin concealed within the revolving drum table is a remarkable design of furniture engineering and a true reflection on the professionalism of Gillow's cabinet makers and the clients of the day to commission the finest pieces of furniture without any compromise!
