George III Sheraton Period Inlaid Mahogany Bow-Fronted Sideboard

England
Circa 1795
The sideboard has a bow-fronted top and is cross-banded in rosewood and boxwood stringing with a highly figured mahogany veneer which retains a good colour and patination. The two deep drawers and one centre drawer are oak lined and retain the original locks and have later replaced handles. The celleret drawer is on the right-hand side and is fitted with wooden divisions. The mahogany drawer fronts are beautifully figured and cross-banded with rosewood and boxwood stringing and flanked by inlaid oval flower motifs. The inlaid decoration below the centre drawer sits above boxwood and ebony stringing that runs around the outline shape of the sideboard. The sideboard stands on tapered mahogany legs which terminate on elegant block feet.
