George III 18th Century Adam Period Pier Mirror

England
Circa 1785
The rectangular upright pier mirror has a centre urn and protruding wheat sheafs and ribbons above scrolls of flower heads and acanthus leaf-work that falls to the side of the frame as trailing foliage. The mirror plate is not original but the frame is carved with shallow relief work and bordered with beaded moulding. The apron is surmounted with a ram's head and leaf foliage that matches the sides of the mirror. The frame is crisply carved with original gesso and gilt work and has elegant proportions.
