The moulded rectangular caddy-shaped top is veneered in fiddle-back mahogany and the lid opens to reveal an interior fitted with lead-lined divisions for wine storage and has has retained the original gilt brass chains that secure the lid when open. The lock plate is stamped with the maker's name and the fiddle-back sarcophagus shaped mahogany cellaret is decorated with the original crisply cast gilt bronze carry handles. The cellaret sits on flamed mahogany panelled block feet which stand on the original concealed brass castors.
